Governance structure and charitable status
St Peter’s College Oxford is both a constituent college of the University of Oxford, and like most Oxford colleges, an autonomous and financially independent, self-governing institution. The College admits undergraduate, graduate and visiting students.
The strategic direction of the College is determined by the Governing Body, which is responsible for ensuring the furtherance of its charitable objects and holds overall responsibility for College policies, finances and administration.
The Governing Body is made up of the Master and Official Fellows of the College. Current members of the Governing Body can be identified by using the filter 'Governing Body' on the People page. You can also find them listed below.
The College has charitable status (registered with the Charity Commission, no.1143166) and the members of the Governing Body therefore carry the legal status of being Trustees of the charity.
The Governing Body is supported by a range of committees. Each committee carries delegated responsibility in a specific area of the work of the College and makes recommendations to Governing Body to inform its decision-making. Further information about committees and the membership of committees can be found in the Annual Report and Financial Accounts, located on the Policies and Documents page of this website. The Statutes and By-laws (located on the same website page) make provision for the appointment of key College Officers.
Amongst the committees that report to the Governing Body is the Audit, Remuneration and Risk Committee (ARRCo). This committee has a majority of external members and is externally chaired. The work of ARRCo helps to assure Governing Body processes in relation to potential conflicts of interest.
The Governing Body and a number of its committees are attended by student representatives (of the JCR and the MCR) and student representatives contribute actively to the College’s governance in this way.
