• this is our main undergraduate finalists' Degree Day

Saturday 8 November 2025

• ceremony at 1.30pm for 29 graduands
• schedule of events will start at 10.30am and finish after afternoon tea
• places for students whose results will be released in June and July 2025

Saturday 15 November 2025

• ceremony at 10.30am for 35 graduands
• schedule of events will start at 9am and finish after lunch in the Dining Hall
• spaces for students whose results will be released in September and early October 2025

Saturday 28 February 2026

• ceremony at 1.30pm for 35 graduands
• schedule of events will start at 10.30am and finish after afternoon tea
• places for students whose results will be released by November or mid-December 2025

Saturday 23 May 2026

• ceremony at 4.15pm for 21 graduands
• schedule of events to begin at 11.30am and finish after the ceremony

Receiving your degree without attending a ceremony (in absentia)

It is possible to take a degree without being present at a ceremony in the Sheldonian Theatre. If you wish to do this there is no waiting list and your name will be entered at the next University degree ceremony. Your certificate will be posted to you after the ceremony.

 

Academic dress can be hired or purchased from Shepherd and Woodward and Walters of Oxford. Hire arrangements must be made by the candidate in advance.

For undergraduate degrees (eg BA), undergraduate Masters degees (eg MBiochem, MEng etc) and postgraduate taught degrees (eg MSt, MSc, BCL etc): please hire (or buy) the gown and hood of your new degree. You will be required to enter the ceremony wearing the gown of the new degree together with the academic cap / mortar board and sub fusc (see below). The academic hood will be added during the ceremony.

For DPhils: please hire or buy the DPhil gown. DPhil graduands are required to enter the ceremony wearing either the Oxford graduate gown (not the DPhil gown) or the gown and hood of their current Oxford degree status, together with the academic cap / mortar board and sub fusc (see below). During the ceremony, the graduates will change into the DPhil gown.

For MAs: please hire or buy the black Master of Arts (MA) gown and the hood (black lined with crimson). You should also wear a mortarboard or soft cap. You will enter the Sheldonian in your MA gown. The hood will added during the ceremony.

The academic cap / mortar board may be worn outdoors but should be removed and carried indoors.

The Vice-Chancellor has asked that candidates should be warned that they may be refused admission to the degree ceremony if they are not properly dressed.

Sub fusc

One of:

a) Dark suit with dark socks, or
b) Dark skirt with black tights or stockings, or
c) Dark trousers with dark socks

Dark Coat if required
Black Shoes
Plain white collared shirt or blouse
White bow tie, black bow tie, black full-length tie, or black ribbon.

Members of the University serving in H.M. Forces are permitted to wear uniform together with a gown.

If you would like an in-person conferral please email degreeceremonies@spc.ox.ac.uk with your request and your name will be added to a waiting list for a place at a future ceremony. We are not able to accept group requests.

To collect your MA in absentia please contact degreeceremonies@spc.ox.ac.uk so you can be sent the latest version of the application form.

There is a £105 fee for MA conferral which should be paid no less than 30 days before the ceremony, or your booking will be cancelled. On receipt of your application form, you will be issued with a link to follow to make the online payment.
