Dr Stephen Tuffnell is Fellow and Tutor in Modern US History at St Peter’s College and Associate Professor of Modern US History at the University of Oxford. Dr Tuffnell’s research focuses on the United States’ global connections in the nineteenth century, exploring the histories of nations and empires around the globe and the development of the modern world. He is the author of Made in Britain: Nation and Emigration in Nineteenth-Century America (University of California Press, 2020), co-editor (with Benjamin Mountford) of A Global History of Gold Rushes, (University of California Press, 2018), and is currently writing Imperial Odyssey: The USS Ticonderoga and the Search for U.S. Empire.
