Three St Peter’s College students will represent the Oxford University Rugby Football Club (OURFC) at this year’s Varsity Match versus the University of Cambridge.

Number 9 (scrum half) Beth Thomas (Biology, 2022) and number 7 (flanker) Amelie Harris-Lovett (DPhil Clinical Medicine, 2025) will start the match, and Kim López I Güell (DPhil Clinical Epidemiology and Medical Statistics, 2022) will come in from the bench as number 20 (flanker).

Beth said,

‘I first started playing rugby at Oxford when a girl at St Peter's Fresher’s Fair encouraged me to come and give it a go. Since then, it has become a key part of my university experience, providing a much-needed break from hours in the library. I am honoured to be starting for the Blues this year as part of such a strong team, and I am ready to show Cambridge that dark blue is the true blue.’

Amelie said,

‘Rugby has been such a key part of university for me. It has created some of my greatest memories and closest friendships. Training through freezing cold, dark evenings, playing some brutal matches as well as the constant learning and drive to improve, means it’s such a rewarding a bonding team sport. All working together towards such an important match and fully throwing yourself into that is truly a rare and awesome experience. I can’t wait to smash Cambridge alongside such a wonderful group of people!’

Kim shared that rugby has been a recent discovery for her,

‘This will be my first (and sadly only) Varsity appearance. I'm very happy and honoured to represent Oxford University and St Peter’s College in such an exciting match. As someone who has started rugby rather late, it's amazing to have this opportunity and have grown so much as a player thanks to OURFC. I’m especially excited for the atmosphere of playing in such a big stadium and, obviously, hoping to shoe the tabs!’

The Varsity match will take place on Saturday 28 February 2026 at 12pm. Learn more and buy your tickets here.
