Social geographer Professor Danny Dorling has published a new book on the economic geography of inequality in Britain, Shattered Nation: Inequality and the Geography of a Failing State (Verso Books, 2023). His book and work on social inequality have been highlighted in a recent interview feature in The Guardian, which describes him as a ‘prescient’ expert on poverty and politics. He has also been interviewed this month by BBC Oxford for radio programmes about the problem of creating affordable housing in the UK and the impacts of new housing developments in the areas around Oxford.

Prof Dorling is Halford Mackinder Professor of Geography at the University of Oxford and Professorial Fellow at St Peter’s College. His work concerns issues of housing, health, employment, education and poverty. He has published extensively on these topics and has made many of his writings available on his website, including an excerpt from his latest book.
