This year, five St Peter’s students have played crucial parts in the Oxford University Orchestra (OUO), the University’s premier student ensemble.

For the first half of the academic year, second-year music student Johnny served as orchestra leader alongside co-leader Allegra, also a second-year musician. Both talented violinists, Johnny and Allegra are just half of the St Peter’s violin contingent, which also includes Jaidon (Music, 2025) and Ella (Modern Languages, 2025). Lucy, a second-year musician, is principal trumpet in the orchestra.

The highly selective OUO gives Oxford’s best student musicians the opportunity to perform at the Sheldonian Theatre under the baton of high-calibre conductors. To have five students representing the College, including a leader, co-leader and principal instrumentalist, speaks to the musical excellence that has become a vital part of St Peter’s identity.

To better support our students’ musical development, in 2023 the College launched a successful fundraising campaign to completely renovate its Music Room building. The new Music Room, which has just been completed, is now a beautiful, accessible and state-of-the art rehearsal and performance venue, complete with a new Model B Classic Grand Steinway piano.
