Music Society announces Michaelmas term lunchtime concerts schedule
22 October 2021
The St Peter's College Music Society is thrilled to present a full term's worth of music-making in college after four particularly difficult terms. Encompassing a wide range of performers, instruments, genres and styles, there is something for everyone in this term's programme!
All of this term's recitals will take place in the College Chapel on Thursdays at 13:15, lasting no more than approximately 45 minutes. Admission is free. They will all also be available a few days afterwards on the SPCOxford YouTube channel, along with past SPCMS recitals.
Vocal Recital, Beth Fitzpatrick
Beth, together with accompanist Stanley Godfrey, presents a programme of C18th solo works for soprano, culminating in Mozart's triumphant solo motet 'Exultate, jubilate' written in 1773.
Freshers' Recital I
In the first of this year's Freshers' Recitals, our new Music students perform for us, in their Oxford performance debut!
Freshers' Recital II
The second of this year's Freshers' Recitals features performances by non-Music freshers, across a wide variety of instruments and genres.
Carnival of the Animals (jointly with Trinity College Music Society)
In their inaugural performance, the St Peter's College Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Beth Fitzpatrick, is joined by pianists Vinaya Roehrl and Sophia Short, and narrator Prof Judith Buchanan, for a performance of the classic 'humorous suite' by Camille Saint-Saëns.
Remembrance Organ Recital, Stanley Godfrey
To mark Remembrance Day, our Senior Organ Scholar presents a programme of reflective British organ music, in recognition of those who have lost their lives fighting in conflicts for this country.
Choral Scholars' Recital
Whilst our Choral Scholars are normally seen performing together as part of the chapel choir, this recital gives them an opportunity to perform solo — a well-deserved opportunity to shine!
This recital is yet to be confirmed; keep an eye on our social media channels for more details!
Organ Scholars' Christmas Recital
To mark the end of the term, our Organ Scholars — Stanley Godfrey and Luke Marsh-Muir — perform a recital of Christmas organ music, with a few special surprises too!
