Dr Sylvia McLain, Stipendiary Lecturer in Biochemistry at St Peter's, recently gave a Friday evening discourse at the prestigious Royal Institution of Great Britain about her research into the role of water in protein folding.

The Royal Institution is run by an independent charity which is dedicated to connecting the general public with the world of science. Friday evening discourses began in 1825 at the Royal Institution and have been taking place ever since. 

The idea is for scientists to communicate their latest discoveries and ideas to a general audience as a formal lecture.
