Prof Balázs Szendrői, Martin Powell Fellow and Tutor in Pure Mathematics at St Peter's, also Senior Tutor, has been appointed as one of the two Executive Editors of the Quarterly Journal of Mathematics, one of the leading Pure Mathematics journals published by Oxford University Press.

Prof Szendrői, whose research interests lie in algebraic geometry, a subject that studies geometric spaces described by polynomial equations, took up the post at the beginning of October.

The journal (published originally under the slightly different name of The Quarterly Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics) first appeared in 1855, making it one of the oldest mathematical journals still in print.
