Prof Akande addresses All-Party Parliamentary Group
Professor Dapo Akande, Yamani Fellow and Tutor in Public International Law at St Peter's, yesterday addressed a meeting of a cross-party parliamentary group on the use of drones (unmanned aerial vehicles). The meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Drones was convened following Prime Minister David Cameron’s announcement last week that the United Kingdom had killed two British citizens in a drone strike conducted in Syria last month by the Royal Air Force.
Professor Akande, an international law specialist, warned that the British government’s actions would only be legal if they were taken to prevent an imminent and serious attack, rather than in revenge for previous attacks.
