St Peter’s alumni Lucy Cox (2008, Music) and Rory McCleery (2005, Music) performed this afternoon as part of The Marian Consort in a live concert, broadcast by BBC Radio 3 from Wigmore Hall in London.

Founded by Rory McCleery, The Marian Consort is a Gramophone Award-nominated vocal ensemble, recognised for its innovative presentation of a broad range of repertoire. The Wigmore Hall concert, entitled Music for the Queen of Heaven, was built around three Marian anthems written by William Byrd (Salve Regina), Cecilia McDowall (Alma Redemptoris Mater), and Judith Weir (Ave Regina Caelorum), but also featured pieces by Roxanna Panufnik, Benjamin Britten, and Thomas Tallis.

Originally called Bechstein Hall, Wigmore Hall specialises in performances of chamber music, early music, vocal music and song recitals. It is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading centres for this type of music and an essential port of call for many of the classical music world’s leading stars
