Death of Albert Latner, Honorary Fellow
It is with sadness that I report the death of our Honorary Fellow and signal benefactor, Albert Latner. He had been ill for some time. Albert Latner was a Canadian philanthropist, businessman and connoisseur who was elected an Honorary Fellow in 1972. The Latner Building in our first quad is named after the family of which he was the patriarch. Two of his sons, Steven and Michael, were students here. The family has also supported other St Peter’s causes – including a variety of bursaries.
He was a champion of modernism and I myself saw some of his collection of modern art – and it is splendid. He was a very good friend of our Emeritus Fellow in English, Francis Warner, and only last year the family supported the transfer of the hugely successful Moore/Bacon exhibition at the Ashmolean to the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto.
We send condolences to his family.
