David Schramm (2017) nominated for OUS Sportsman of the Year Award
Congratulations to St Peter’s student David Schramm (2017, Biochemistry), who has been shortlisted for the Walters & Co. Oxford University Sport (OUS) Sportsman of the Year Award.
David, who has been heavily involved in Oxford Sport since 2017, is an active member of the Oxford University Ski Club (OUSSC), which he joined as a fresher. He was awarded a Half Blue in his first year with the Club and has won two Full Blues since, placing first across both Oxford and Cambridge at the annual Varsity Races in 2018 and 2019. He also placed 10th and 11th overall in the Giant Slalom and Slalom events, respectively, at the BUCS Alpine Skiing Main Event in 2019.
David has also been an active member of the OUSSC executive committee, serving as Men's Captain (2018-2019), a role he will reprise for 2020-2021, and President (2019-2020). In these posts, David helped formalise pre-season trips to Landgraaf Snowworld—the largest indoor ski slope in the world—to improve the quality of our training. He also invested Club funds into shared Club equipment, to increase access to the racing aspect of such an expensive sport.
Alongside his competitive and administrative achievements, David has spent time coaching other athletes in the Club, achieving his Level 2 Ski Instructor through the Canadian Ski Instructor’s Alliance and Entry Level Coach through Alpine Canada in the process.
David is one of four sportsmen across the University nominated for the award. The winner will be announced later in the term.
