A Celebration of History at St Peter's
A celebration of History at St Peter's was held this weekend to mark the occasion of Prof Henry Mayr-Harting's 80th birthday.
Prof Mayr-Harting, who taught at St Peter's between 1968 and 1997, before going on to be elected Regius Professor of Ecclesiastical History in the University of Oxford, was joined by Prof Lawrence Goldman, Senior Research Fellow at St Peter's, and current Director of the Institute of Historical Research, for an afternoon of talks led by the college's two current history fellows, Prof Stephen Baxter, a world-renowned expert of Domesday Book, and Dr Stephen Tuffnell, whose own research focuses on the United States’ global connections in the 19th century.
The afternoon also saw a number of St Peter's History alumni return to the college, including BBC Correspondent, Gordon Corera (1992), and former House of Lords Clerk, Chris Sims (1977), to reflect on their time at St Peter's and how a sense of the past helped shape their lives.
