Noel Chavasse Memorial Paving Stone Unveiling

Noel Chavasse Memorial Paving Stone Unveiling

Tue 9 Aug 2016: 1:45pm

A memorial paving stone will be unveiled by the Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire outside St Peter's College Chapel in honour of Captain Noel Chavasse MC VC and Bar.

Captain Chavasse, whose identical twin brother, Christopher, was the first Master of St Peter's, was the only man to be awarded the Victoria Cross twice during World War I. He was born at 36 New Inn Hall Street and baptised in the church of St Peter-le-Bailey (now the College chapel).

The unveiling ceremony itself will be open to members of the public. A tea in Canal House will be hosted for invited guests and dignitaries.

The paving stone is being laid as part of a nationwide programme in honour of Victoria Cross winners and forms part of the series of commemorative events 'Duty, Courage, Faith: The Chavasse Family in World War I'.
