Student Finance Information

Tuition Fee and College Fees

All students are charged a Tuition fee annually (other than Graduates who are out of fee liability). Rates depend on course and degree level.

Home and EU undergraduates can apply for a Tuition fee loan via Student Finance (their local funding authority). Loans are made payable direct to the University. For further information please visit : https://www.gov.uk/student-finance

Graduate Entry medics can apply for a loan to cover part of their fee, however £3465 will have to be met by the student in the first year.

College Fees

Overseas Undergraduates ELQ and all Graduate students are charged a College Fee annually.

Battels

Battels (bills) are due by Friday of 2nd week every term (unless stated otherwise) students will receive these by email and a reminder email closer to the due date.

If for any reason you cannot pay your Battels you must contact the Student Finance Officer. Late Battels Payments will incur a charge of £10 a week.

Charges included in Battels

Charges on Battels include: Accommodation, JCR subs and charity subs, Freshers Upay top up, Library fines and key deposits along with any ad hoc charges such as JCR Photos, punts or Ball tickets.

Those who pay for their Tuition fees will also have this charge added to Battels. Tuition and College fees are due by Friday 2nd week of Michaelmas term, we do not accept termly instalments for fees.

Payment for Battels can be made either by card or cheque or cash (under £50 only for cash) in the finance office, or online with our bank details. When paying online please state your name as a reference or your account code.

International Bank Transfer

We have partnered with foreign exchange company PaytoStudy to allow international students to make payments by sending us secure bank transfers in their own local currency. Please note:

  • The exchange rate should be very competitive, but we strongly recommend you compare the rate quoted with other providers.
  • Please use your student account number, which can be found on your College invoice, as the reference for your payment.

PaytoStudy Application Process

  1. Complete and submit the application form.
  2. PaytoStudy will provide you with an instant quotation for your payment in your local currency. This quotation is guaranteed for 48 hours only.
  3. Once you agree to the offer, you should then instruct your bank to transfer funds in your local currency to PaytoStudy. This bank instruction can be done electronically, while you are on the PaytoStudy site.
  4. PaytoStudy will then forward a payment in UK Sterling to us and send you a receipt as proof of payment.

Bursaries and awards

Oxford Bursary

Oxford Bursaries are available to Home and EU students from lower income households. If you are entitled to an award you will be sent a notification letter by Student Funding Services. EU students will be contacted with an income assessment form to complete directly from EU student finance.

Vacation Grants

Home and EU undergraduate students can apply for a vacation grant to help towards their vacation rent if they need to stay for academic purposes such as revision and exams. This application form can be found at the lodge or in the finance office.

Compulsory Fieldwork Grant

Students who are expected to undertake compulsory field work are eligible for a field work grant of up to £200. Forms can be found in the Finance Office.

St Peters Foundation Travel Fund

The College is aware that many students undertake extra work relating to their course during vacations such as field trips or unpaid internships, and that modern languages students who are on their year abroad are given reduced loans from Student Finance. The College can provide a small grant towards this, however funds are limited and will be awarded based on a first come first serve basis.

Other Bursaries and Awards

Other bursaries including Graduate travel awards are advertised separately. These can be advertised via email or by posters in our lodge during terms.

Budgeting, Debt and Hardship

Students who would like to discuss budgeting and debt management can make an appointment with the Student Finance Officer who can also help with student loan queries including help with the application process.

St Peters College has a small Hardship fund to help with unexpected financial problems. Students are asked to make an appointment with the Student Finance Officer to discuss in detail their financial problems. All information is kept private and confidential and students are assessed individually based on their circumstances. The college cannot award any grants or loans towards Tuition or College fees.

University Hardship

These grants are for students who experience financial hardship as a result of unforeseen circumstances. The form is available on the Oxford University website. You are advised to speak to the Student Finance Officer when completing the form for help and advice.

Access to Learning Fund

Financial assistance is available for those classified as "home" students, who face difficulty in meeting their living costs. It cannot be used to help meet tuition fees. Students will be assumed to be in receipt of their maximum student loan entitlement and must speak to their College first before making an application. The application form can be found on the University Website.           

 

Graduate Awards

Martin Birch Award

Number of Awards per year: 1
Amount Awarded per award: up to £1000
Purpose: Research Expenses.  
Conditions: Students must be in 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of Graduate Study.  Awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need. Precedence given to St Peter’s undergraduates  for research projects in areas of life sciences, excluding clinical medicine with precedence for  entomology.

Aylmer, Cairncross and St Peter’s Academic Awards

Number of Awards per year: 2
Amount Awarded per award: up to £400
Purpose: Research Expenses.  Expenditure on equipment not allowed
Conditions: Students must be in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of Graduate Study.  Awarded on the basis of academic achievement

Emeritus Fellows’ Travel Award

Number of Awards per year: 1
Amount Awarded per award: up to £400
Purpose: Research related travel, excluding travel to conferences
Conditions: Students must be in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of Graduate Study.  Awarded on the basis of academic achievement

St Peter’s College Foundation Graduate Awards

Number of Awards per year: N/A
Amount Awarded per award: Up to £400
Purpose: Research related expenditure
Conditions: Applicants must approach at least one other source of funds, such as their Departments, Faculties or Scholarship funds.

J. Bossanyi Bursary in Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Use

Number of Awards per year: N/A
Amount Awarded per award: Up to £400
Purpose: To support graduate Research on environmental issues, particularly with respect to environmental and biodiversity conservation and sustainable resource use.  
Conditions: Research undertaken should be interdisciplinary; should show sensitivity to diverse cultural, political, social, and/or technological environments; should aim, where possible to formulate strategies to promote action.  

The St Peter's Diggle Clarendon Scholarship

Number of Awards per year: 1
Amount Awarded per award: Full University and College Fees.
Purpose:   In addition to the funding of tuition fees, the St Peter's Diggle Scholarship will provide £2000 per term for living expenses, and an additional £4000 per annum will be available upon application to the college to support research and associated travel.
Conditions: Applicants must be Singaporean citizens and preferably resident in Singapore at the time of applications.  The applicant must have the intention of using their experience at St Peter's College to contribute to the development of the academic and intellectual environment of Signapore

MCR Book Grant

Number of Awards per year: N/A
Amount Awarded per award: Up to £100
Purpose: To cover the cost of purchasing books that cannot be bought by the college library.  

MCR Thesis Binding Grant

Number of Awards per year: N/A
Amount Awarded per award: Up to £100
Purpose: To cover costs of binding Masters or DPhil Theses.

MCR Conference Grant

Number of Awards per year: N/A
Amount Awarded per award: Up to £400
Purpose: To cover costs of attending conferences.
