Work with Schools and Colleges
St Peter's is committed to encouraging and supporting potential applicants from schools and colleges across the country. The College's Schools Liaison Officer, Alice Wilby, organises events and activities for prospective students. Please contact Alice if you have any questions about the events below, or if you would like to be added to our teacher mailing list.
Visits to Schools and Colleges
Alice is able to visit schools and colleges to speak to groups of prospective students who are considering an application to Oxford. Talks are flexible, and usually cover courses, the application process, student life and student funding. Talks for parents or teachers can also be arranged. Alice is also able to speak to groups of younger students about aspiring to Oxford and similar universities.
Talks usually require a minimum group size of 20 (there is no maximum), so it may be appropriate for schools and colleges in the same area to join together to host an event. If you would like to organise one of these events for your school then please get in touch with Alice to discuss a suitable date.
Year 12 and 13 Visits to St Peter's
We welcome visits from small school groups, either on an ad-hoc basis or at one of our 'Open Days'. Days are tailored to the group, and often include a tour, admissions talk, meeting with current students and lunch. Please contact Alice if you would like to arrange a visit for your school.
Oxford Taster Days
These dates offer small groups of year 10 students from state schools chance to spend a day in Oxford, getting a taste of university life. Many dates are open to schools from any part of the country, offered by a group of colleges, and they will be advertised here in September.
In addition, St Peter's is holding a few additional Taster Days which are reserved for non-selective state schools in our link areas of Enfield, Waltham Forest, Merseyside (Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helen's, Wirral), and North Wales (Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Wrexham). Available dates for 2011-12 are:
Tuesday 15th November 2011 - FULLY BOOKED
Thursday 2nd February 2012 - One school place left
Tuesday 21st February 2012 - One school place left
Thursday 8th March 2012 - FULLY BOOKED
Schools may book up to 10 student and 2 staff places for the taster days. Each date has capacity for two schools. If you would like to book places on one of these dates please email Alice.
Regional Outreach
The University has recently developed a programme to simplify communication between the University and all schools in the United Kingdom. Each Oxford college is linked to a Local Authority to ensure that each school has a first point of contact within the University.
This measure has been undertaken to improve the way in which we communicate information, advice and guidance to teachers. The scheme will not have any bearing on the Oxford admissions process and will not influence whether a college offers a candidate a place. It is not intended to replace any existing contact a school may have with a particular college or department.
St Peter's College has been linked to Local Authorities in Merseyside, North Wales, the Isle of Man, and the London Boroughs of Enfield and Waltham Forest under this scheme.
