Mr Kenneth Williams (1940) sadly passed away on 18th July 2007. His family would welcome your memories of him; please send any stories or messages via the Development Office.
Sir Kenneth Bloomfield, Hon Fellow (1949) has been chairman of the Governors of his old school, the Royal Belfast Academical Institution, since 2004. The school celebrates its bicentenary in 2010. He came to St .Peter's Hall in 1949 largely because his then headmaster had been at Cambridge with Canon Howard. Kenneth was the first pupil of the school to come, but is happy to be able to say that not long ago one of their own achieved a very distinguished First in Law. For much of this year Kenneth has been active as the chairman and spokesperson for a local Association for Quality Education, which is struggling to preserve the ethos of grammar school education in the face of a determination by government to ban academic selection, despite their hesitation to take on the remaining grammar schools in England enjoying public support . The campaign has involved him in numerous speeches, articles in local and national press, and lobbying visits to Westminster, including half an hour with the Prime Minister. In the new term, Liverpool University Press is due to publish his book, A Tragedy of Errors which reflects on the deep roots of the "troubles" in Northern Ireland. As a History graduate, Kenneth was pleased to see that his 1994 memoir, Stormont in Crisis is a recommended book for those tackling this period as a Special Subject. He has three other books in the pipeline. Kenneth’s daughter, Caroline, since last year Mrs. Boyd McDowell, and a Law graduate from St. Peter's, is a community development worker for a Health Action Zone in the most deprived areas of Belfast. Kenneth would love to hear from any of his contemporaries (if still alive!) who matriculated in 1949.
Michael Tibbs (1946) was one of the last British District Commissioners of the Sudan Political Service. He and his wife left 52 years ago and never expected to return. However, out of the blue they were invited back in January 2006 and had an amazing week being entertained in and around Khartoum; it was very nostalgic and the Sudanese were so hospitable and glad to see them again.
