Breadcrumbs

Frances Tilney (2002) started a job at the Pentagon in the Western Hemisphere Affairs division of the Policy department after graduating from St Peter’s. After two months, she started working in the Office of the Deputy Secretary of Defence for Paul Wolfowitz, and then for Gordon England (former Secretary of the Navy) after Wolfowitz transferred to become President of the World Bank. As you can imagine, the Department of Defence has been very busy and Frances has had the opportunity to work on some wonderful projects, including extensive travel to Iraq, Oman, the UAE, Qatar, and Guantanamo Bay.  If anyone from the MCR is ever in DC, do get in touch with Frances.

Scott Crawford (2002) is now doing a PhD at the University of York funded by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation. His research focuses on plant developmental genetics and he awarded the KM Stott Prize in Biology in his first year at York. Scott was also awarded a place, following competitive selection, on the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Plant Science course in New York for a month. His PhD supervisor in York is Ottoline Leyser, Henrietta Leyser's daughter! Small world!

Catriona Davies (2002) has been accepted onto the Teach First Scheme after having completed a Summer Teacher Training Institute at Canterbury Christ Church University. She begins teaching in September at Albany School in Enfield, London and is looking forward to the challenge!

Francis Woolfe (2000) has been studying for a PhD in applied mathematics at Yale University. Franco is interested in high dimensional data analysis, both in terms of designing new algorithms and working on real data.

Mira Sundara Rajan (2000) graduated in 2003 with a DPhil in Law from St Peter's. In November of 2005, she was awarded the Canada Research Chair in Intellectual Property Law. A Canada Research Chair (Tier II) is the highest level of academic appointment available in Canada for a scholar who is less than 10 years from completing doctoral studies (there is also a Tier I Chair available for senior scholars), and means that my position is directly supported by the Government of Canada. Details of the Chairs programme are available online: www.chairs.gc.ca

Mira has just published a book based on her doctorate. It is entitled, Copyright and Creative Freedom: A Study of Post-Socialist Law Reform (Routledge, Sept 1 2006); the book is dedicated to Prof David Vaver of the Oxford Intellectual Property Research Centre. Again, some information is available online.
