Mathematics and Statistics

Statistics is a subject of wide importance in many areas of science, medicine, finance, operational research, business and government. This course allows students to combine the strengths of the Oxford Mathematics degree with the possibility of specifically pursuing statistics and probability in depth. The course can be taken as a three year BA or four year MMath course, and includes a substantial statistics project.

The first four terms of the course are identical with the Mathematics course, but thereafter students have the opportunity to specialise in more statistical topics. There is considerable flexibility between this course and Mathematics, with the ability to change in either direction until well into the second year. For further details see www.maths.ox.ac.uk and www.stats.ox.ac.uk .

Teaching at St Peter's

Students are taught as part of the general group of mathematicians at St Peter's, with appropriate specialist statistics teaching, mainly departmentally-based, in the later part of the course. The College has particular research strength in Statistics.
