Abby Williams' research to be turned into song

Wednesday, July 5, 2017

Prof Abigail Williams, Lord White Fellow in English at St Peter's, has been chosen as one of five researchers from across the University to take part in ‘Musical Abstracts’, an initiative to turn academic ideas into public performance.

Along with songwriter Jonny Berliner (pictured working with Abby above), she will co-write a song based on her current research on misreading and fake news.

The song, which is about the similarities between digital media and 18th-century print culture, will be composed by Jonny, in a brand-new style fusing 18th-century harmonies with contemporary grime music

'Musical Abstracts' will be performed as part of the University’s largest ever public engagement event, the 'Curiosity Carnival' taking place on 29 September 2017.

On that night, Oxford will join with hundreds of other European cities in celebrating European Researchers’ Night with a city-wide programme of activities across the University of Oxford’s museums, libraries, gardens and woods.
