Middle Common Room

The Middle Common Room (MCR) at St Peter's refers to two things, firstly the group of postgraduates within the College and secondly, the common room itself in which these students can socialise and work.

St Peter’s MCR has more than 180 members so is a very lively and cosmopolitan group, with members from all over the world studying for a variety of Masters degrees and Doctorates in both the Arts and Sciences.

The common room has recently been renovated and therefore provides postgraduate students with very modern and comfortable facilities, including a television room (with DVD, Wii and video facilities) and a small kitchen. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and offers a social focus where members can meet up, relax, eat, drink and be merry!

Each year a committee is elected to represent the interests of the MCR within the College and to organise social events, including bops (Oxford–speak for parties), formal dinners, cultural events, academic events and trips. The Committee are also there to support postgraduate student needs and act as a point of advice and reference for all MCR members.

St Peter's MCR is an active group of postgraduates, filled to the brim with eclectic and interesting people with a whole variety of different interests and experiences to share. Being a member of our community provides an excellent opportunity to get away from the stresses of work and to find out about a new culture, learn how to cook a new dish, go on a trip somewhere you've never been before or acquire a new skill (everything from whisky tasting, to ice skating!). It also provides a great space to engage with your studies and members agree that the MCR provides a homely and supportive working environment, with free tea and coffee to keep you going!

We are always looking to welcome new members into our community. The best way to experience the MCR is to see it for yourself, so if you're thinking of applying do drop by for a cup of tea! We look forward to meeting you!
