Superstars of Botany

26 April 2012

A paper by Dan Bebber and colleagues has been featured in this week's edition of the leading international journal Nature.  Analysis of 103,000 type specimens in four of the world's largest herbaria — at the Natural History Museum in London, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, UK, the Missouri Botanical Garden in St Louis and the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne, Australia - showed that half the species are collected by just 2 % of individuals. The feature interviews some of these 'big hitters' and discusses the future of plant species discovery. The research was also covered in Science, in a series on careers in research.
